The precious jewel
I decided to go for an evening stroll. I walked about three blocks when I felt it, the jewel was in my pocket. I was going to take it out of my pocket to look at it, but I was afraid that someone was near me, ready to turn me in to the police. I just couldn’t stand it anymore, and I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at it. The shining light it gave off hypnotized me. I just kept staring. I heard it say to me before I lost consciousness “Don’t worry Alexia. I’ll find you and seek you out!”
I woke up in the hospital room and saw the jewel in my backpack. Then I went home and my mom was furious. I told her that it was no ordinary jewel that the police took away from me while I was unconscious - it was uncontrollable.
The jewel should be kept somewhere special, but I didn’t know where. For whoever had it was doomed to death. I knew I had to do something about it, and put it somewhere, but where?
It was cold and snowy when I went to school the next day. I was suspicious of everyone. Who could I trust?
When I reached school, I had the feeling that every child was looking at me as if they knew I had the jewel in my backpack. As I didnt know what to do I decided to tell my very best friend Miranda. "You wouldn't believe what happenened to me" I told her everything with all the details, and asked her if she could help me find out what to do with it. I couldn t concentrate at school very much because all day the idea of the mysterious jewel was bouncing from one place to another in my head. Finally the break bell rang, Miranda and I went to the library. We investigated about jewels and gems. We could find out in a very old book that this kind of jewel came from ancient China. After school we decided to visit a Chinese jeweler that ownwed a shop in Chinatown. We took a bus and on the way the jewel, which was in my backpack pocket, started to vibrate and a shining light came through the backpack ziper. We resisted the temptation to look at it, as we knew it was dangerous. We tried to hide it in panic.
At last we got to Chinatown and got off the bus. It wasn't difficult to find the little shop. We opened the door, a bell rang and a young man came. He looked half Chinese and half occidental. He greeted us very politely and asked if we were looking for something to buy. When we showed him the jewel he was astonished that we had it and became a little bit uneasy. He told us a long story about an old master that had come to town many, many years ago and lived with his family till he died. He thought he was keen in Chinese black magic and was known that he owned a set of magic jewels but nobody had seen them. They were ten and this seemed to be one of them. He wanted to know how I had got to have it on my own. Again I retold all the story. He advised us not to show it to anyone else and gave us the address of the greatgrandson of the master. When we left the store it was too late to go to Mr. Tonoko’s so we took the bus back home having the feeling that we were closer to put this jewel in a proper place. When I got home, my mom wasn’t as furious as she was the day before but started to ask questions. I knew I couldn’ tell her anything as the nice Chinese shop owner had told me, so I answered the least I could and said I was very tired and went to bed without having dinner.
The next day I was so anxious to go to Mr. Tonoko’s home that I could barely sit in my school chair. When the final bell rang wschoohich meant lessons had finished, I grabbed my friend Miranda’s hand and rushed to the bus stop. We got to Chinatown and opened the paper with the adDress. We reached Mr. Tonoko's door and rang the bell. A tall and old man with a long and thin beard opened the door and politely asked "How can I help you?" "Who are you looking for?". We told him that the man of the jewelery SHOP HAD informed us about a jewel called Juang and that he thought it was part of a set of ten jewels. "He sent us to talk with you because he knew that your family owned this kind of antique jewls". Mr. Tonoko invited us in and told us a long story of his family running away from the Chinese Mafia from China to here. He said that someone had stolen one of this jewels and was very worried because they might want to sell it to the Mafia. So I decided to tell him " I have the jewel here with me" His suprise was inmense and he asked me politely to show it to him. I did so, and as soon as I took it from my backpack it began to shine. He said it was because it was close to the others and they had a special energy when they were close to the others. He was very glad to have the complete set again . He said that he would keep them in a very secure place. He thanked us so much. On our way back home we were tired but very happy, proud of solving the mystery all by ourselves.
