Ice Scream !
It was a huge diamond which had been beautifully cut. The dim light from the window reflected brightly on is many on its manyfacets.
John's memory was blurry. The last thing that he could remember clearly was eating in the busy little restaurant on the harbour. After eating he had walked along the quay ....... a scream .... then nothing.
The door opened and a sailor came in. He looked familiar. He was old and wore a thick yellow oilskin jacket. He clearly believed that John was someone else. He started to talk about 'shipments' and 'merchandise'. John decided to play along to get more information. There would be nothing to be gained by revealing his true identity.
He went with the old man to the quayside warehouse where there were crates of fish packed in ice ...and diamonds. Suddenly he remembered the fight on the quayside that had ended with both men falling into the dirty water. He had obviously been dragged out of the water, mistaken for the other man.
That night, when all of the smugglers were in the warehouse he sounded the alarm so that the whole gang was caught red handed.
The police had been looking for the smugglers of diamonds for over a year. John had mistaken for the ringleader who had drowned in the water and was found dead by the police the next day. John was allowed to keep the diamond that he found in his pocket, as a reward for his bravery.
